Results of the 2018 Seedless Pickling Cucumber Variety Trial | MSU Extension Vegetables

A pickling cucumber variety trial was planted at the Saginaw Valley Research and Extension Center (43.399097, -83.694497, Frankenmuth, Michigan). Rijk Zwaan (RZ) and Bejo (BJ) seed companies donated parthenocarpic (seedless) cucumber seeds for the trial. CucCAP research identifies a cucumber gene for resistances to downy mildew, angular leaf spot and anthracnose

Development of varieties with multiple disease resistances is always an important goal for plant breeders. Dr. Yiqun Weng’s Lab at the Vegetable Crops Research Unit in USDA-ARS, Madison, Wisconsin identified the STAYGREEN gene that is responsible for the PI 197087-derived triple-disease resistances.

Pickle Variety Twilight Meeting – Cornell Vegetable Program

Vegetable growers toured an on-farm plot of early generation Cornell downy mildew resistant pickle breeding lines.
