CucCAP scientists identify QTL for Phytophthora resistance in squash

Root and crown rot caused by Phytophthora capsici continues to cause major economic losses in squash and pumpkin production. The recent article: “Performance and Resistance to Phytophthora Crown and Root Rot in Squash Lines” described the breeding of new squash lines with improved resistance. The article: “A combined BSA-Seq and linkage mapping approach identifies genomic regions associated with Phytophthora root and crown rot resistance in squash” describes research efforts by Cornell’s Mazourek & Smart Labs along with Michael Gore’s lab, to facilitate deployment of disease resistance in commercial breeding programs.
