Cucurbit crop diseases and pests are reported in newsletters and forecasting sites by crop producers, Extension Agents, and Plant Pathologists from many regions in the United States.
CDM reported in Ontario – July 4th, 2023
Cucurbit downy mildew has been identified in a cucumber field in Kent County. Disease presence is very low with less than one percent of the plants exhibiting lesions at this time. The field has been treated with preventative fungicides. This is the first report of cucurbit downy mildew in Ontario for the 2023 growing season.

Cucurbits are being harvested in multiple regions of S.C. In the Midlands, Squash are still being picked with anthracnose present at greater frequency. Mosaic virus has also been more prevalent. Disease pressure is high. Striped cucumber beetle and army worms have been seen on squash.
Michigan cucurbit report – June 28, 2023
Clade 2 downy mildew spores were trapped in Michigan last week. Phytophthora infested surface waters may be the only source for irrigation in some areas.

Clade 2 downy mildew infects cucumbers and melons and spores from this subtype were trapped in Bay, Allegan and Saginaw counties last week.

Clemson plant pathologist Tony Keinath attributed the discovery at the Coastal Research and Education Center on June 12 to a rain event that occurred the previous week.
