Powdery mildew is one of the most important diseases of melon. CucCAP researchers from the USDA-ARS Vegetable Research Lab in Charleston South Carolina and Clemson University used a densely genotyped melon population to identify QTL associated with resistance in multiple plant tissues. Whole-genome resequencing allowed for marker development and candidate gene analysis. These findings provide targets for future breeding efforts and a fundamental examination of resistance to powdery mildew in melon.
