CucCAP scientists map QTL for resistance to powdery mildew in melon

April 4, 2022April 11, 2022 cuccap CucCAP Featured Articles

Powdery mildew is one of the most important diseases of melon.  CucCAP researchers used a densely genotyped melon population to identify QTL associated with resistance in multiple plant tissues.

CucCAP scientists uncover QTL associated with sulfur tolerance in melon, facilitating disease control options

August 7, 2020March 22, 2022 cuccap CucCAP Featured Articles, CucCAP Melon Team

CucCAP researchers identified a major QTL associated with sulfur tolerance in a melon mapping population. Genetic markers were developed for the major QTL and can be used to incorporate sulfur tolerance in melon breeding programs.

CucCAP researchers review producers willingness to pay for new varieties

Researchers from NC State University reviewed the literature on specialty crop trait valuation using stated preference surveys and performed a regression meta-analysis to calculate the differences in willingness-to-pay premium between specialty crop producers and consumers. They found that, on average, specialty crop producers place an approximately 20 percentage point higher premium on novel crop traits. These findings will support the development of surveys measuring cucurbit producers’ valuation of the breeding traits and cultural techniques developed in the CucCAP project.
