The watermelon team is led by Amnon Levi. Team objectives are to develop genomic, bioinformatic, mapping approaches and tools for cucurbits, map and develop markers for disease resistance, and introgress, pyramid/stack resistances into advanced breeding lines.
CucCAP scientists map QTL for resistance to downy mildew in melon
CucCAP researchers identified two major and seven minor QTL using a cross between the resistant melon breeding line MR-1 and susceptible cultivar Ananas Yoqne’am.

CucCAP researchers identified a major QTL associated with sulfur tolerance in a melon mapping population. Genetic markers were developed for the major QTL and can be used to incorporate sulfur tolerance in melon breeding programs.
