The Great Lakes Vegetable Producer’s Network conducts weekly roundtable discussions for vegetable producers in the Great Lakes and Midwest region. CucCAP plant pathologist, Dr. Christine Smart was the featured speaker on August 26, 2020. The presentation titled, “PHYTOPHTHORA PHTHOUGHTS” discusses disease spread in growing areas, ground water management, crop rotation, sanitation, and other strategies to manage this pathogen.
How can growers living with this devastating disease of cucurbits, peppers and tomatoes produce a harvestable crop? Dr. Smart works on the “Phytophthora farm“ at Cornell University, land which is dedicated to researching solutions growers can use to deal with this disease.
