Virus and whitefly reports

  • In Florida Whitefly reports have varied greatly. Watermelons have had low to moderate numbers. Moderate levels were also reported in squash and in SW Florida very low populations are reported in melons.
  • CuLCrV was reported from multiple fields in the SWFREC area and there may be more than one virus present.
  • Increasing levels of Cucurbit Leaf Crumple Virus (CuLCrV) have been reported Central Florida by scouts.

Gummy Stem Blight

  • Gummy stem blight (Didymella bryoniae) has been reported at low to moderate levels In Central Florida and In SW Florida this disease has been reported on watermelons.

Pythium, Choanephora, and other pests

  • Low to moderate incidence of pythium is reported across all crops in Central Florida.
  • A current outbreak of Choanephora stem blight (Choanephora cucurbitarum) was reported in North Florida and Georgia. This pathogen can cause fruit rot in cucurbits.
  • Central Florida Melon worms are at moderate levels in squash.
  • Reports of low to moderate levels of Melon Thrips in squash and Asian Bean Thrips are very low in squash.
