Michigan vegetable crop report

Squash and slicing cucumbers were being seeded and transplanted this week in SW Michigan. Squash sowing was on tap in West Central. Pumpkins, hard squash, melons and watermelons are on the docket.

Clemson Extension Agents Provide Updates

May 24, 2022

Clemson Cooperative Extension agents in the Coastal Region reported on weather conditions and their effect on pests and diseases in cucurbits:

“Given the increased chances of rainfall, we are increasing protection against gummy stem blight.”

“Cucurbit downy mildew is active in South Georgia, so any cucumber growers should be prepared to apply fungicides.”

“The good news about it being so dry is that diseases have been kept at bay this spring. However, I am seeing a good bit of powdery mildew on squash and zucchini.”

Squash and zucchini are being harvested in the Midlands.
