The South Florida Pest and Disease Hotline reports that whitefly pressure is increasing to high levels in Southwest Florida which is normal for this time of year. Population levels are lower in other areas, including in squash fields in central Florida. Low levels of whiteflies have been observed in the Everglades Agricultural Area, which is atypical for this time of year. Moderate levels are seen in cucumber on the East Coast. Whiteflies can transmit viruses. Management of whiteflies later in the season depends on early suppression of whitefly populations.
