In Spring of 2021, CucCAP plant pathologist Tony Keinath and his colleagues at Clemson University planted a crop of slicing cucumbers at the Coastal Research and Extension Center in Charleston South Carolina to study how to avoid downy mildew issues by planting cucumbers early.

A Clemson study finds planting cucumbers early can help crops mature before downy mildew can take over, saving growers money normally spent on fungicides and labor. Photo: Clemson University
