CucCAP scientists contribute to international effort to develop genomic search engine for horticultural crops

With the advances of sequencing technologies, genomes for hundreds of horticultural crops, including cucurbits, have been deciphered in recent years. These valuable genomic data can be employed to facilitate more effective crop improvement.   However, the data are scattered in various databases with complex search and display strategies, making functional genomic analyses across different crops very challenging. To this end, a lightweight universal search engine, HortGenome Search Engine (HSE), was developed to allow for the querying of genes, functional annotations, protein domains, homologs, and other gene-related functions for more than 500 horticultural crops.
