Collapsing Vines in Cucurbit Fields

A recent article from Penn State Extension asks the question,  What’s Causing Vine Crops to Collapse? Fusarium and pythium root rot were the answer.

  • Pythium is generally a problem in wet soil conditions.
  • Fusarium is common in cucurbit fields. This disease survives in the soil and can be seedborne, which would introduce it into an otherwise clean field. High moisture levels in the field are favorable for disease development.
