Clemson Crop Updates | August 30, 2023
Summer vegetable harvests are going well in South Carolina. Disease and insect pressure are relatively high. Growers are advised to scout frequently.

In the Midlands, pythium and gummy stem blight have been reported on cucumber. Anthracnose and mosaic virus have been reported on squash. Downy mildew is beginning to appear on pickling cucumbers. Gummy stem blight control has worked well on watermelons which are being harvested. In the Pee Dee region, watermelons and cantaloupe are showing some Pythium on young fruits. Squash, cucumbers zucchini are all coming to market. Watermelons and Cantaloupe will be following very soon. Downy mildew is active in all cucurbits. Rotating materials is crucial to prevent resistance. Gummy stem blight is also very active in cucurbits.
