Downy Mildew on Cucumber in Western NC
Cucumber downy mildew was confirmed on cucumber plants in a research plot in western NC. Water-soaked lesions on the leaves were observed with gray to black spores on the underside of the leaf. Very light yellow spots or lesions were observed on the upper sides of leaves.

Cucurbit downy mildew in Michigan
The first symptoms of cucurbit downy mildew disease on pickling cucumber plants in a commercial production field have been verifiedby qPCR in the Saginaw County lab on July 19, 2023. The statewide spore trapping network to detect downy mildew spores in the air has had positives in multiple counties.

In the Midlands, pythium and gummy stem blight have been reported on cucumber. Anthracnose and mosaic virus have been reported on squash. Downy mildew is beginning to appear on pickling cucumbers. Gummy stem blight control has worked well on watermelons which are being harvested. In the Pee Dee region, watermelons and cantaloupe are showing some Pythium on young fruits. Phytophthora concerns for Georgia watermelons
Phytophthora fruit rot is a water mold that attacks the fruits of watermelon plants. It thrives in rainy weather. It not only affects watermelons in the field, but also after harvest.
